Riding your two-wheeler machine on roads; listening to the sounds of thumping engine (Vroom… Vroom… Vroom); with speed; in style; amidst fast blowing winds; the feel is different; one feels like a rebel.

Designed specially to fulfill fantasies of every biker in India and abroad, is the special itinerary, Ladakh Motorbike Safari.

Ladakh Motorbike Safari has caught the attention of millions of riders for a long time. Most, who become a part of this Safari, continues to do so every year. The Safari is gearing up for its 2014 season. The excitement is already high amongst adventure fanatics and motorbike riders. The time to ride will soon be upon us.

Day 01: Arrival Delhi/Manali

The Motorbike Safari starts from Delhi. From the capital city of India, one is taken to Manali in a Volvo Bus. Obviously one would want to start the bike ride from Delhi to Manali itself. It is hard to keep the hands away from the motorcycles. But the roads on-route from Delhi to Manipur is heavily packed with traffic and stretches for more than 625 km. It would ideally be a waste of time riding on a bike to cover this distance. The air-conditioned bus is a better option. And don’t worry; you would get plenty of opportunity to kick start the bike ride. In Manali, check inside the hotel, freshen up, have dinner and then have some sleep before the adventure begins.

Day 02: Manali

The next morning you wake up, have a quick breakfast and get ready for an exciting biking day. Firstly, the road guides gives a brief introduction on day-to-day itineraries and road plans. One is provided with the route maps along with tank bags. Then, to acclimatize one with the conditions, the riders are taken on motorcycles rides in Manali. This is the time one gets a brief trailer of the adventure that is about to follow on the subsequent days. The ride on your Royal Enfield, amidst rugged terrains of Himalayas is an experience of a lifetime. Return for lunch at the hotel and then take some rest. The rest of the day is marked to be spent at leisure. Visit major attractions of Manali or simply go for a bike ride. Come bak for dinner and an overnight stay in the hotel.

Day 03: Manali/Rohtang Pass/Keylong (115 km/06 Hrs Ride)

The next morning wake up early, have a quick breakfast and then head out for your most awaited bike journey- the ride to the highest road in the world- Manali- Leh Highway. Before one starts the bike ride, he/she is taught a simple basic rule of the journey: Ride Safely. The first journey is stretched up to 52 km till one reaches Kullu. After a tea time break in Kullu Valley, the climb to Rohtang La Pass, at an elevation of 3985 m begins. After a bike ride of another 52 km, surrounded with unending lush green Himalayan Mountains and flowing waterfalls on the roads, one reaches to Rohtang Pass. As soon as you make it here, you get to rest in the fixed camps for a while along with the lunch. The bike ride then takes one to Chandra valley, and then moves on to Tandi. This is the only destination on the Manali-Leh Highway where there is a petrol station, so fill your tanks up here. Then one rides to Keylong where they are taken to their hotel. Check in the hotel, freshen up, eat your dinner and then spend night in the hotel.

Day 04: Keylong/Baralacha Pass/Sarchu (130kms/06 Hrs Ride)

Wake up the next morning and after breakfast, start your journey amidst spectacular Mountain sceneries. Today you ride to higher altitudes. It is marked for adventure as on this stretch you will face broken roads, road waterfalls, intolerable temperature and Mountain Lakes. This is where the bike often gets jammed or crammed up or even breaks down. To make it to Sarchu, the journey takes you first to – Baralacha la Pass at an elevation of 4880 m. Then after coming down from high altitudes, one reaches Sarchu Plains. Sarchu is covered with snow all year round and hence there are no hotels in here. So, one spends his night inside an alpine tent.

Day 05: Sarchu- Leh (250 km/07 Hrs Ride)

Wake up the next morning, have a quick breakfast and then get ready to ride your precious bikes once more. Today, the journey to Leh begins. On this journey, first one reaches Naki La Pass, situated at an elevation of 4800 m and then heads to Lachang La Pass, at a height of 5065 m. Passing through gorgeous yet dreary landscapes, lush green plains and high altitude mountains, one makes it to Tanglang la pass which is located at a height of 5300 m. According to Guinness Book of World Records, Tanglang is the second highest motorable pass in the world. After the adventurous bike journey, one makes it to Leh where they check in the hotel, have their dinner and spend a cozy overnight stay at hotel.

Day 06: In Leh – Ride to Khardung La pass (5600 m) (39 km/02Hrs)

The next day is the one you waited for all your life; the ultimate bike ride to Khardung la Pass- The highest motorable pass in the world. Wake up in the morning, have a quick breakfast and then start your bike journey from Leh to Khardung La Pass which is located at a height of over 5600 m. The Pass has been listed in Guiness Book of World Records as highest road in the world. Click pictures, post your flag and celebrate, when (and if) you make it there. After the victory lap, make your way back to your hotel in Leh. Have lunch and then take some rest. The remaining day you can spend taking a break from the tiring bike rides and go out for sightseeing in Leh. You can visit tourist attractions in Leh like Tibetan market, Shanti Stupa and Namgyal Palace. Return to hotel at night for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 07: Leh- Pangong Lake (150 km/05 Hrs Ride)

Wake up the next day, have quick breakfast, and then get ready to travel to the most gorgeous region in Ladakh; Changthang Plateau. The unique landscape is covered with beautiful plains covered with breathtaking grasslands and lush green meadows. Reaching here involves a steep bike ride to the third highest motorable pass in the world, Chang-la pass, situated at an elevation of 5360 m. One you crass the pass, you reach the enchanting Changthang Plateau where the sights of traveling nomads with their cattle will catch your attention. Then you move on to reach the magical Pangong Lake, which is known as the highest salt water Lake in the World. One could enjoy a peaceful solitude by the side of this serene lake. This peaceful time is like a relaxing vacation in heaven and redefines the phrase “Paradise on Earth”. Bird lovers can get their cameras out and shoot pictures of numerous migratory birds over here. Have your dinner at the on-site camp and spend overnight stay at the camp.

Day 08: Pangong lake/Tsokhar Lake (200 km/08 Hrs Ride)

Wake up the next morning, have your breakfast at the camp site and then get ready to mount your bikes. Ride your bikes to Tsokhar Village, passing through Karu, Upsi, Rumste and Tanglang La Pass. After passing the village, by riding on the sandy and dirt trackm you lead straight to the serene Tso Kar Lake. The shores are surrounded by lush green meadows and marshy landscapes. There are several fresh water sources, salty lakes, natural springs and meandering streams around this region. The site is natural breeding ground for a number of migratory birds as well. The beauty of this regions calms one’s mind, body and soul. Have a delicious dinner at the on-site campsite and spend a relaxed overnight stay there.

Day 09: Tsokhar/Jispa (210 km/7 Hrs Ride)

The next morning is marked as the first day for the return journey. But do not frown, the bike rides are still not over. Wake up early morning, have some breakfast, and then get ready to get on your bikes again. The journey from Tsokhar to Jispa takes you through Baralachal La which is situated at an elevation of 4850 m. This journey is thrilling, chilling, gut wrenching, trail blazing and spine shivering. After the adventurous bike ride, check in your hotel at Jispa, freshen up, have some dinner and spend a relaxing overnight in the hotel room.

Day 10: Jispa/Manali (135 km/5 Hrs Ride)

Next morning wake up, have your breakfast, freshen up and get ready for the adventurous bike journey from the Jispa to Manali. You again will cross Rohtang Pass, situated at a height of 3980 m. The rules are still the same and now with experience must have become simpler: Ride Carefully. After reaching Manali, check in your hotel. Go to your room, freshen up, have your dinner. The overnight stay in the hotel is marked as the first night of the 1-year long wait for Ladakh Motorbike Safari 2015.

Day 11: Manali /Delhi by overnight Volvo bus

Wake up the next morning, have some breakfast and freshen up. The morning is supposed to be spent at leisure. You could go out to ride on your bike with newly found “bike buddies” on the trip. Reach back to the hotel by afternoon, have lunch and then make your way to the bus station. Enjoy your overnight return trip to Delhi on semi-sleeper Volvo bus.
